Already established in Korea and Japan, SAGA is continuing to develop in North Asia
Considering the growing importance of business with China, SAGA wished to create a structure which would enable it to be closer to its customers' supply centre, and to improve the monitoring of their traffic. So a new sales office made up of a team of 5 people opened in Shanghai in January 2005.
Yves Laforgue, Asia regional Director, explains to us the functioning of this new agency: "Our foothold in Shanghai is linked to our customer based commercial management and development imperatives. Furthermore, it takes part in intergroup synergies in terms of flow massification and cost rationalisation".
This office has a multimodal activity. The marketing team is currently focusing on a local service for accompanying French customers and help to make it easier for them to obtain supplies. "We are currently giving assistance to Surf in the construction of boats in Ningbo, destinated to operate in the oil-producing countries in Africa." clarifies Yves Laforgue.
In the future, Cross Trade, in particular trade between Asia-Africa, should take a bigger part in the office's activity. It will benefit from the transfer of African supply channels from Europe to China. It will closely following the Maghreb market considering Saga's position, flow leader for export to Algeria.
Setting up in China enables SAGA to strengthen and reposition its network at the heart of the "world workshop" of manufactured products. It will be another relay for SAGA commercial teams and will enable us to take up new challenges.
